boreal owl

birch bark, rocks, driftwood

6″w x 8″d x 13″h

My summers up in northern Minnesota have always involved making things out of the beautiful birch bark and driftwood pieces we find on the ground and along the shores, so this became a challenge of using natural materials to embody some of the creatures native to the area. While creating this Boreal Owl, I tried to use the pieces of birch bark to their full effect and emphasize the tears, cracks, and knots that naturally lend themselves to feathers.
